Some people think that cultivating compassion is good for others but not necessarily good for ourselves. In reality, we are the ones who benefit most directly since compassion immediately instills in us a sense of calm, inner strength, and a deep confidence and satisfaction, whereas it is not certain that the ones we feel compassion for will benefit.
