Elissa is a certified Anusara® yoga teacher who began her study of yoga in California in 2001. Immediately drawn to the heart, intelligence, and fun of Anusara, she spent most of her 3 years there studying and practicing this dynamic style full time. She met Anusara founder John Friend in 2002, and soon found herself teaching classes all over Los Angeles. She moved back to Canada in the fall of 2003 and was the first to introduce Anusara Yoga to Western Canada. In June of 2008, she relocated to beautiful Nelson, BC where she continues to offer classes and workshops locally and all around BC from her new home base.
Elissa’s teaching style creates a fun, supportive and safe environment that empowers students of all levels to bring a new openness and flexibility to body, heart and mind. She has completed over 200 hours of workshops and trainings with John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga, and hundreds more hours with some of the most respected certified Anusara teachers in the US *. Elissa has also had the privilege of studying with Dr. Douglas Brooks, a world-renown scholar of Hindu Tantrism. She keeps up her studies with regular trips south for workshops and training, and of course, her personal yoga practice.
Elissa offers well-rounded classes that are challenging yet deeply respectful of each student’s abilities. She has a particular interest in yoga therapy and is able to assist students who have aches or pain due to injury or misalignment, as well as seasoned practitioners who want to refine and deepen their practice. Elissa has taught workshops, as well as public, private, and corporate classes throughout Southern BC and beyond.
